In this day and time, there are three fundamental rules that a singer/songwriter must abide by. First, she must be able to sing. Second, she must be able to write songs. (Ok…ok…I realize those first two are more negotiable now than ever. The last one, however, is not.) Most importantly, a singer/songwriter must share real life with her fans and friends in the form of personal insights and behind-the-scenes stories. In a word, she must blog.
Over the past year, a certain singer/songwriter has managed to sing and write songs but has failed miserably at keeping Rule No. 3, which should actually be Rule No. 1. I could offer many excuses for this atrocious offense. At the top of the list, I’ve been consumed with working on a new project that I can’t wait to tell you more about! Next on the list, I can’t imagine why anyone would want to read my ramblings.
I am learning in my old age that it’s sometimes best to simply obey the rules instead of questioning or making excuses. I don’t practice such behavior often, but for the sake of those who really aren’t interested in my long list of faulty reasonings, I solemnly pledge to do my best to follow Rule No. 1 from now on.

In the meantime, I have lots to share with you. So much has been going on, and so much is just ahead. I’ve spent the better part of a year writing and recording a new project! (More on that soon. Other highlights of the last year (as if I needed any) include experiencing a season of relentless writer’s block that finally relented, making music with friends I haven’t collaborated with in nearly a decade, moving from the big city back to the suburbs. Sharing the stage with several music legends, and signing a book deal with my long-time friend and now co-author, Andrew Greer.
Since I’m just getting back into blogging shape, I think I’ve about worn myself out for today. I can’t wait to share more about all that’s going on. Thanks so much for reading, and stay tuned for more!
