Do you ever get so lost in the details of your day that you don’t actually get anything accomplished? As an artist type, I have to draw up to-do lists and make mental notes of daily goals or I won’t accomplish anything.

Sometimes, even when we’re working hard to get to the end of something, it can feel like we’ll never make it. When I’m in the thick of writing a song, I usually have pieces of melody and phrases of lyrics scattered in my mind and on the page, and I have no idea how it’s going to come together. I nearly give up at least a hundred times. I keep going by keeping the end in mind. I hold on to the idea behind the song until the song has become that idea.

This morning I read where Jesus says that He will return “in a cloud with power and great glory” (Lk. 21:27). This moment of meeting is the end we get to look forward to if we trust God with our lives. What we think about that end defines everything we do today. Or at least, we want it to. Sometimes our thoughts about life and God and heaven are scattered, and we have no idea how it all fits together. We might be tempted to give up, so it’s important to keep that ending in mind, and hold onto the knowledge of the One behind it.

So think with me about the end for a second: The apostle Paul told his Corinthian friends that we’re all a little bit blind this side of heaven. We’re looking through a blurry glass. Our purpose is not clear. Our lives are full of challenges we don’t understand. But he goes on to say that there will be a day when we see clearly. When we get it. The moment you and I see perfectly will be when we are gazing, in awe, at Jesus’ face. Or falling on our faces before Him. I don’t know exactly what that will be like, but I know it will be glorious. And that end will be just the beginning of our infinite lives.

I want to encourage you (and me) to reflect on the end today and every day. Here’s a song I wrote to help us do it: youtube.com/watch?v=6Bd-V1bcIOU Take a listen and celebrate!
